Our monthly Employee Spotlight series featuring one of our amazing team members, showcasing what it’s like to work in the cleaning industry at Accurate, where we #keepitfun.

This month we are happy to introduce you to Maria Nava (Flor Ruelas)! She's been with Accurate for 19 years. For the last 13 years, Maria has been Accurate's supervisor at the same luxury high-rise community, where she's taken exceptional care of our customer and their residents there throughout her tenure. Maria "Flor" was nominated for her outstanding work ethic, superb customer service, dedication to excellence, professionalism, and her gift for building relationships... all carried out with her incredible (and famous) SMILE!


Accurate’s CEO/Visionary Alex Finken nominated Flor for this month's Employee Spotlight. The rest of the managers and leadership team jumped in with their approval and compliments.

Accurate Co-Founder Ron Finken agreed, saying, "I think Flor is a perfect selection."

"Flor is the epitome of what we strive for as far as employee retention! We have never had any issues with Flor as far as quality of work, nor disciplinary. I am as far separated from the day-to-day of the janitorial staff’s duties as one could be, but from everything that I have heard about Flor in the 11 years that I have been with Accurate-- if we could only duplicate janitorial staff like Flor, we would never lose a client!" - Tammy Hanson, Accurate's Director of Finance/Human Resources

As our Vice President of Operations Rico Rodriguez often reminds everyone on the Accurate team: "Our goal is to create raving fans out of our customers." Employees like Flor help us deliver on that intention.

"Flor and I have been working together for 8 years. We get along very well. We've never had any problems. We always agree on procedures and decisions for the best of the company. If we don't see eye-to-eye, we always discuss it and find the best solution and approach. Flor Ruelas is a person who takes pride in her work and makes sure everything turns out satisfactorily. Not only is Flor clearly held in high esteem by everyone at Accurate, but several of our customer's staff and residents jumped at the chance to join us in honoring her. They couldn't say enough singing her praises about the kind of person and professional she is!

Carlos Lopezleon works at the community's front desk and has known Maria for 10 years. He wrote, "Maria is an outstanding team member and a great asset to our community and to Accurate. She is a hard worker and takes pride in her daily duties. Maria is loved and respected by the residents, staff, and management."

Another community resident, Marty B., sees Maria's value from several perspectives. "We’ve watched Maria clean for so long, and I will tell you, she always has a smile on her face, always busy, perfect work. That’s important."

"She's so pleasant! Anytime we walk in, the first thing Maria says is, 'Hello!' and then, 'Is everything okay?" with a big smile on her face. I give her a thumbs up and tell her that everything is always perfect, since she cleaned it. I don’t think I could find somebody better! As the founder, owner, and operator of one of the nation’s largest exhibitor marketing firms in years past, Marty has a better than average grasp on why cleaning industry professionals are so valuable and important. "I used to say, ‘I can’t do this without them [all the people on the ground].’

"The night before a show, the facility event cleaning crew would show up. And I would find the team lead and tell that person, ‘You and your crew are the most important people in this whole event, because you make this thing SHINE!’ And then afterwards I would find them to say, ‘I can’t believe how beautiful you made this look. "Aside from doing a fantastic job, I think probably the main thing is she’s such a nice person. Every time we walk through the door and see her, Maria's smile lights up the room. She is always friendly. She chats with my wife, who just loves her. And she's great with kids! When there are parents in the lobby with young children, it's so clear in such a wonderful way that she is such a mum. We got to know more about Maria "Flor" as both a person and a professional during a recent Question & Answer session. Read on to be inspired!

What is your WHY of being a cleaning industry professional? In other words—what brings you to work each day besides needing to earn a paycheck? I like to clean. And I feel good where I am (meaning at Accurate, my workplace) because of my time there. People get along and treat me well all the time. Everyone is very friendly. Where I work, everyone greets me-- it's a residential site.

What aspects of your job do you enjoy the most? I always enjoy my work. To be valued, not only in the place where I currently work but also by the company. I get compliments from managers and residents. And I am proud to know that at the same time, they recognize that Accurate is one of the best janitorial service companies. We never get any complaints.

What or who inspired you to pursue this career? My children. I became a single mother and needed a job. And that was when I joined the company-- 19 years ago. My children were young, and I started working two jobs. I decided to stay with Accurate Building Maintenance because the company was very flexible with me.

What advice would you give to recent new hires? I advise them that if they do not like cleaning, do not start working with us. Cleaning is what we do and we do it with passion! To have initiative and common sense. It is about keeping everything clean and being proud of what is done. To make sure everything looks neat at all times.

Which of Accurate’s core values resonates most with you and why? (Keep It Fun, Opportunity, Respect, Solutions, and We Keep Our Word) We Keep Our Word. To me, they respect and protect their staff members. For example, they worked with me when I had difficulties in my schedule. They have never failed with my paychecks; I've never had that problem-- my money is always in my account on paydays.

Which job benefit or perk at Accurate is your favorite and why?

My favorite benefit is my schedule. Another advantage is that Accurate rewards their employees. For example, they give us bonuses and gift cards, among other things.

What is your greatest achievement? Taking care of my three children and raising them morally and academically the right way. My children are exceptional!

What job did you want to have as a child?

I wanted to be an interior designer. In my house, I keep changing and moving things around constantly. It's my passion!

What's your favorite hobby? (What do you like to do when you're not working?)

Well, I have two hobbies. I really like cleaning compulsively, but I'm also a shopaholic. lol!

Do you collect anything?

Perfume. My favorite is “Tender” by Chanel.

If you could meet or interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be? Juan Gabriel, the singer. My favorite song by him is “El Noa Noa.”
