JASON RICHARDSON| EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT DECEMBER 2023

Any custodial worker knows they are more than "just" a janitor-- and we agree!

At Accurate Building Maintenance, our team members are the backbone of our team and the heartbeat of our #purpose: creating clean, healthy, safe communities. They take care of our customers, so we take care of them like family—the best kind! We are so grateful for all they do each day and love to see them grow and succeed.

Our monthly Employee Spotlight series features one of our amazing team members, showcasing what it’s like to work in the cleaning industry at Accurate, where we #keepitfun.

This month we are happy to introduce you to Jason Richardson! Accurate has been his second job for more than 16 years. Jason was nominated for his unwavering dedication, exceptional customer service, and fantastic attitude.

I had the privilege of getting to know more about Jason during a recent Question & Answer session. He embodies dedication, humility, and hard work. A family man and dog lover, Jason quietly excels, valuing dependability and honesty. His commitment to keeping his word, both professionally and personally, makes him an inspiring figure. Jason's story, like all in our Employee Spotlight series, is one of genuine character and inspiration!

Special thanks and kudos from creator/author Erin Williams (Marketing) to our Customer Service Manager Dee Perez for her devotion and assistance in carrying out all the necessary pieces to make this article unique and impactful every month!

WHAT JASON HAD TO SAY ABOUT THE JANITORIAL INDUSTRY, ACCURATE, AND HIS WORK JOURNEY

What brought you to Accurate and the cleaning industry originally in 2007?

I needed a second job to help support my family at the time. The nature of the work is appealing to me, and the company has good options for different shifts and availability.

How has the company changed in the last 16 years? What's kept you at Accurate? Accurate is a good company. The managers have changed over the years, but they've always been nice, cool, and very helpful. Everyone is approachable, and if you need something, they follow through. Otherwise, there hasn't been much change —the culture, environment, and atmosphere are consistent, and that’s a plus.

What was your first job?

The summer before I started high school, I got my first job at age 14. The work was cleaning up trash at that high school.

What is the most important career lesson or work advice you’ve learned?

Show up and do what you say you’ll do—what you’re expected to do—keep your word, and you’ll be good.

What aspects of your job at Accurate do you enjoy the most?

The work is task oriented, and I like knowing that I've accomplished things. The results are measurable. I know when I clock out that I got my job done. I also enjoy working by myself independently at night.

How do you know you've succeeded at work? Not quitting; being recognized and rewarded with raises for your hard work.

What skills do you think everyone should learn? Dependability, punctuality, and how to keep your word (be reliable).

Which of Accurate’s core values resonates most with you and why? (Keep It Fun, Opportunity, Respect, Solutions, and We Keep Our Word) OPPORTUNITY and WE KEEP IT FUN. I like those concepts. They matter. They're important.

What is one thing you wish people knew about your job as a janitor?

Even though a lot of people look down on this profession, it’s good, steady work. It’s a dependable job. There’s always work to do.

What is your recipe for success at work?

1. Always be on time.

2. Work hard. 3. Be honest.

WHAT JASON SHARED ABOUT HIMSELF

What is the most important thing you’ve learned in the last 3 years?

First, spend more time with your family. And second, personal growth has to be a priority.

What are you most proud of in your life? My daughter (age 24). She's always been a good kid!

What advice would you give to yourself at age 13? Save your money!

What would your perfect weekend look like?

Winning the lottery and then retiring!

What do you like to watch or listen to in your free time?

I like watching sports, especially pro football. My favorite NFL team is the San Francisco 49ers. I watch news and current events programs, or once in awhile a documentary, but I don't really watch entertainment-type TV shows or movies.

If given a chance, who would you be or trade places with for one day?

John Lynch, the General Manager of the San Francisco 49ers. Because then I could see everything from his perspective.

Jason admires John Lynch, the current 49ers GM and prior sportscaster and NFL Hall of Famer.

What's your favorite podcast?

The Joe Rogan Experience. Author’s Note: This podcast is a long form conversation hosted by comedian Joe Rogan in which he discusses current events, comedy, politics, philosophy, science, martial arts, and hobbies with a variety of friends and guests including comedians, actors, musicians, MMA fighters, authors, and artists. What’s your favorite holiday?

Halloween.

When you were a kid, was there a particular job you wanted to have as an adult?

Nothing specific. I just knew I wanted a job where I made a lot of money! I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do when I finished high school, so I worked at my dad’s security company at first.

What was your first job?

The summer before I started high school, I got my first job at age 14. The work was cleaning up trash at that high school.

What is a dream that you want to make come true one day? I always wanted to buy my own house... but I already did that. Mission accomplished!

You can have an unlimited supply of one thing for the rest of your life. What is it?

That's easy. Money! Does anyone ever give a different answer to that question?

Author's Note: Change up this question next month to start with, "Besides $."

What is your #1 pet peeve?

It's a tie for two things:

  1. Sloppiness/dirtiness.

  2. Being late.

How do you define personal success? Not getting yelled at by my wife. 😝

If you could meet or interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be?

Clint Eastwood. He's pretty cool. I like him as an actor, and he seems like an interesting person.

If you could do a different job for just one day, what would it be? A veterinarian.

I hear you're a dog person. Tell us about your pets. I have six dogs. All girls except for one boy! I used to breed Chihuahuas, and I ended up keeping four of them: Carmen, Blanca, Coco, and Manny. I also have a German Shepherd rescue named Gracie and a Husky named Lily.

So are you one of those people that talk to your dogs? Well, yeah. You have to!

Author: Right? But I take it a step further. I answer back for them, in their own doggie voices.

If you were an animal, what would you be? A dog. Of course.

You're happiest when ____. (fill in the blank)

I'm off work from both of my jobs!

If you were stuck on a deserted island, what three things would you bring?

Gatorade, a fishing pole, and a lighter.

Thank you, JASON, for being #Committed, #Authentic, #Inspiring, #positive, a #Rockstar and #TeamPlayer! You set the bar high, and we're proud of you! We’re so glad you’re part of The Accurate Family.
