Our Spotlight winner this month has been back with Accurate for the past year. An energetic teammate, talented singer-songwriter, and devoted mother, her drive and positivity inspire those around her. “I like to do things with excellence. Success is about growing. My work fulfills me, and the team feels like family."

Any custodial worker knows they are more than "just" a janitor— and we agree!
At Accurate Building Maintenance, our team members are the backbone of our team and the heartbeat of our purpose: inspiring personal and professional growth while creating clean, healthy, safe communities. They take care of our customers, so we take care of them like family—the best kind! We are so grateful for all they do each day and love to see them grow and succeed.

WHAT FLOR HAD TO SAY ABOUT THE JANITORIAL INDUSTRY AND WORKING AT ACCURATE
What's your WHY for being a cleaning industry professional? In other words, what brings you to work each day at this job, besides needing to earn a paycheck? I think I’ve always been motivated to do things well. I like to do things with excellence. One of my reasons is that clients are satisfied, that they’re happy with my work.

What inspires you to keep pursuing this career? More than anything, my inspiration is myself. Because when I’m doing something, I feel fulfilled, I feel satisfied knowing that my work is appreciated. I think my motivation is myself because I see myself fulfilled, doing what I like, and doing it well. That motivates me even more.
What is one thing you wish people knew about your work? I’d like people to know that for me, this job is like any other job. Every job has its pros and cons. But I wish people wouldn’t see this work as something low-level. It’s a job where you can grow, where you can improve yourself. It’s not just mopping or vacuuming or dusting. It’s a job where you can develop, where you’re given the opportunity to rise to another level.
What is the best piece of work advice you've ever received? The best advice I’ve gotten is: “Keep it up—you’re doing very well, keep going.” Clients always tell me, “Very good, great job, keep it up.” That’s the best advice, because when they tell me that, it means I’m doing things right, and it gives me motivation not to lower my standards.
What do you enjoy most about your work? I enjoy the cleaning itself; I like seeing everything tidy. But what I enjoy most is the teamwork. Even though there are only three of us here, we get along well, we work as a team, and I like that because everyone knows what they need to do. The teamwork and unity—that’s what I enjoy most.

Is there someone at our company who inspires you? Yes, Ms. Dee Perez (Customer Service Manager). From the beginning, she listened to me, gave me advice, and gave me opportunities. She inspires me to keep doing better.
Which of Accurate's core values is most important to you, and why? (We Keep Our Word, Opportunity, Respect, Keep it Fun, and Solutions) For me, it’s respect. Here at work, we all respect each other, and when you treat people respectfully, everything else follows. When you respect your coworkers, they respect you, you work better, and the atmosphere is more enjoyable. With my teammates, when it’s time to work, we work, and when it’s time to laugh, we laugh—but in a healthy way. We’ve never disrespected each other. Working respectfully makes the job more fun.
What is the funniest, most embarrassing, or strangest thing that's happened to you on the job? Lots of things happen here that make us laugh. For example, once I was taking my cart and a bucket of water to another building, and the bucket tipped over. The whole floor flooded, and I had no choice but to mop everything again. The floor ended up extra shiny, but it doubled my work. At the time it was embarrassing, but when I told my coworkers, we laughed because it’s happened to them too. So instead of getting upset, it turned into something funny.
I don’t see work as a burden. Coming to work feels like a second home where I can talk with my coworkers, and we do our best together.

Let's talk about your coworkers. Describe Carmen and Luisa each in three words. Carmen is more calm, but when she’s with me I try to make the environment more cheerful. She has a saying whenever we clean something really dirty: “It was worse before.” She says it so often that now I say it too. We get along well and communicate, so teamwork flows. Luisa is very active and works quickly. She never says no—she’s always at 100%. She sometimes gets embarrassed if she forgets something and says, “Oh, I’m sorry, Florecita!” She also picked up one of my sayings. When we clean windows, I always say, “Look, it’s shiny-shiny!” Now she says it too. We’ve all adapted to each other, even learning each other’s expressions. We make a great team.

How do you balance your work at Accurate with your personal and family life? And also your spiritual life? Before working here, I felt something was missing. My kids were at school, and I was alone at home, sometimes sad. Coming here gave me distraction, fulfillment, and health—I started feeling better. Now I come home happier, glad to see my kids, because I feel good about myself. Spiritually too, I was feeling low before, but this job gave me life again. The work environment here feels like family, and that’s helped me so much.
WHAT FLOR SHARED ABOUT HERSELF
What does success mean to you? For me, success is when there are no complaints about my work. That means I’m doing well. Success is also about growing and not staying stuck. If clients are happy, that’s success for me and for the company.
What is the most important lesson you've learned in the past three years? Not to let anyone manipulate you. I learned that with one of my children—you can’t let others control your life.

What is something people don't know about you that would surprise them? That I have seven children. And also, that I can write songs. God gave me that gift. I used to sing in church for many years, though I stopped. But I still write songs, record them, and keep them. People would probably be surprised because I don’t go around singing all the time.
Author's Note: We would LOVE to hear you sing anytime, Flor! -Your Accurate Building Maintenance Family
What's your favorite vacation spot? When I was little, we were poor, so I only saw Disneyland on a black-and-white TV. I always dreamed of going. The first time I went, already with three kids, I felt like a child myself. Since then, I’ve gone several times and still love it.
If you had to eat one food every day for the rest of your life, what would it be? Chinese food. It’s my favorite.
If you could go back and give your 13-year-old self some advice, what would it be? Don’t let anyone steal your dreams. Don’t listen to negative words. Focus on your goals and pursue your dreams.

What do you like to do when you’re not working? I like cleaning my house.
Finish this sentence: You're happiest when... When I’m working, because it takes away all the stress I might bring from home, and I have good coworkers.
If you had to sing karaoke, what song would you choose? Since I’m Christian, I’d sing a song by Jesús Adrián Romero.
What's your favorite motivational phrase? “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” - Philippians 4:13

If you could be someone else for a day, who would you be? Honestly, no one. I’d rather be myself. I’m unique with my own essence.
What's the first thing you bought with your own money? A purse. I collect them.
If you could create a new holiday, what would it be? It would be my birthday—but celebrated big, worldwide.
What's your favorite family tradition? Thanksgiving. My kids love it because I cook the turkey, and it’s become a tradition that we’re all together every year.
What's the biggest challenge you've had to overcome? Illness. I was very sick, but I had to push through and not stay down.
If you had to delete all the apps on your phone but keep three, which would you keep? Photos, messaging, and my Reina Valera Bible app.

Thank you, Flor, for being a highly valued team member and an inspiration! We are so glad you’re part of The Accurate Family.
